  • What You Should Know

  • This initiative is a pilot program designed to support the creation of new family child care businesses. While guidance, resources, and technical assistance are provided, participants should be aware that starting and licensing a family child care home is a time‑intensive and effort‑driven process.

Becoming a licensed provider may take several months or longer, depending on individual circumstances such as home readiness, required training, inspections, and background checks. Success also requires a strong commitment to meeting licensing standards, building business operations, and delivering high‑quality care.

  • Disclaimer

  • Starting a family childcare program may require various home modifications and the payment of licensing and compliance-related fees. Funding provided through the new business component may not cover all start-up expenses. As a result, personal funds will be necessary to fully establish and operate a family childcare program.
